Coaches who have children in the program - obviously you will come to the practice your child goes to.  For those without children, I'll be sending out a separate email with the team you're assigned to.  All coaches should attend the draft their child goes to or the night their players are drafted.  Practices will continue in a similar fashion as has happened the past couple weeks.  Being assigned a team means that you are in their team photo and you get to coach them during their couple 30 minute games towards the end of the season.

PRACTICE PLAN:
I will send out an email with details of the stations Friday afternoon.  Some stations will be repeats others will be new.  We saw this past week how much work the players need on stopping.  This weeks theme will included: quick starts, short stops and an intro to lateral movement (aka cross-overs).

As the season progresses there will be different plans for the different divisions.  Efforts will be made to have similar stations - meaning that items used in one station at one practice will be used at the following practice at the same area of ice.  And if you didn't notice - we aren't rotating what hour you practice once the drafts happen! :)

As always, coaches are encouraged to come an hour early or stay an hour later to help and to see how different age groups handle the same stations.  75% of you are "attached" to a player and will be moving up with them.  It's not a bad idea to learn what goes on there now.

TIMBIT HOCKEY COACHES AND MANAGERS INFORMATION:
Hello Coaches:   Thank you for being a part of the Timbit Minor Hockey Experience.  We cannot build the foundation of life long love of the game without you.     Lots of little feet with big smiles and big ice for little bodies.  Remember that the ADM format will be the outline for this year's program at all levels.
Equipment: Remember that you will need: helmet, skates, gloves.  What you do not need: stick, whistle and NHL attitude or experience. Why no whistle??? We use a positive voice which reinforces and teaches.  No sticks till the kids get them...

Coaching Certification and paperwork

  • Copy of your USA Hockey Coaches Education Card

  • Copy of your USA Hockey Coach/Player Registration (If you are a player in a Senior Hockey League this is your reg. number)
  • Completion of age appropriate coaching module.

LOCKERROOM AND SAFETY POLICY:

Coaches, please remember that you are not to go into lockerrooms or bathrooms with any player other than your own child.  The players Mom and Dad must take them to the washroom.  Remind your parents that the lockerrooms are off limits.

MAKE THE COMMITTMENT--MAKE SURE YOU ARE THERE.  THE CHILDREN NEED CONSISTANCE AND NEED TO KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO BE THERE.

COACHING FORMAT:
You will be provided with a skills progression program at the meeting that we need to follow.  Consistance in development among the division coaches builds a foundation for the future.  We work together as a team.
The practices are to include: 20 minutes of skating, 15 minutes of stick and puck skills, 15-20 minutes of game/player skills which can include a group controlled small game scrimmage.  This is for the Timbit II Programs.
Timbit I-fundamentals is the key here.  Skating, skating, balance, skating  FUN  FUN  FUN
